Customers at Blue Fig International Market visit not only to shop for everyday groceries but also to reminisce. The store’s inventory is made up of items more often found in other countries, from Turkey to Russia to Pakistan.
“We have a lot of European chocolates that older Europeans come here to shop for,” owner Walid Radwan said. “It reminds them of their childhood.”
Radwan said he and his father-in-law, Ziad Nowar, opened Blue Fig International Market in Plano in December 2017. Walking through the store, customers will see items from different nations on the same aisle. In addition to daily produce deliveries, the market has a wide selection of sweets, cheeses, dried goods and deli meats.
The top-selling products are lamb and chicken, the pair said. The market’s meat selection is halal, which means it is prepared according to Muslim law. They stock Dorper lamb, which is equivalent to the quality of Angus beef, Radwan said.
