Improvements to E. Pecan St. and SH 130 will result in closure of Impact Way

A new phase of road construction in east Pflugerville at the intersection of SH 130 and Pecan Street will result in the temporary closure of Impact Way.

Andrew Batten, a project manager for Joe Bland construction, said the next phase of work on East Pecan Street involves widening the road and installing a median on Pecan just west of its intersection with SH 130.

Initially planned to begin at 1 a.m. Aug. 14, project leaders said the new phase of construction has been delayed slightly and is now slated to begin Aug. 21.

As part of the work, eastbound Pecan will be reduced to one lane from Biltmore Avenue to the SH 130 frontage road.

Information from the city of Pflugerville states eastbound traffic along Pecan will still be able to turn right onto Sun Light Near Way; however, vehicles will not be able to access Pecan from Sun Light Near Way.

Impact Way will be fully closed, and westbound traffic along Pecan will not have access to Impact Way or Sun Light Near Way.

It is recommended that all traffic detour to Biltmore Avenue to access SH 130 Commerce Center, Northeast Metro Park, Community Gardens and Public Works.

The new lane configuration is anticipated to last approximately three weeks, after which Sun Light Near Way and Impact Way will continue to be limited to right in/out from Pecan, according to the city.

Batten said work for what is called Project Charm began around January and is planned to conclude sometime in early September, weather permitting.

“Ultimately, Impact Way is the one road that will be shut down, and there will be detour signs guiding motorists,” Batten said. “It’s basically just giving some more improvement as far as travel lanes and access.”
