7 transportation updates in Pflugerville and Hutto

Both Pflugerville and Hutto are in the midst of planning several upcoming road projects.

Pflugerville

Upcoming projects

Kelly Lane Phase 3

Project: The road will be widened to four lanes from Moorlynch Avenue to Weiss Lane. The project also includes the construction of four roundabouts and pedestrian improvements, according to the city.

Update: The city’s transportation team submitted plans in June to the Federal Emergency Management Administration to ensure the project won’t worsen flooding in the area. The first round of comments are expected back in October.

Parkway Drive

Project: The road will be reconstructed with pavement, curb, drainage, sidewalk and streetlight improvements.

Update: At its Aug. 25 meeting, City Council approved the construction contract with Chasco Constructors for $3.1 million. Construction is set to begin in mid September.

• Timeline: mid-September-July 2027
• Cost: $3.4 million

Pfluger Farm Lane North

Project: The road will be widened to three lanes and extended to connect to SH 45.

Update: Project bidding is paused until the developers agreement is resolved with the city. Anticipated bidding is set for Sept. 15.

Ongoing projects

East Pflugerville Parkway

Project: This project will expand Pflugerville Parkway to four lanes from Colorado Sand Drive to Weiss Lane. The expansion aims to meet population growth in the area.

Update: Construction began in July, and will require a full-depth roadway reconstruction, including mass excavation, causing limited access to the area. Additionally, parking lots to the south of Lake Pflugerville will be closed through January.

I-35 Capex North

Project: This project will add one tolled lane to I-35 from US 290 East to SH 45. It will also reconstruct bridges, relocate entrance and exit ramps, and add a diverging diamond intersection at Wells Branch Pkwy.

Update: During the current phase of construction, drivers can expect northbound and southbound frontage roads to be reduced to one lane between SH 45 and Grand Avenue Parkway.

Hutto

Upcoming projects

Carl Stern and FM 685

Project: The project will include construction of a right-turn lane at the westbound approach of Carl Stern Drive to the intersection of FM 685.

Update: The contractor submitted 95% design plans to the city for review in August.

CR 137 and FM 1660 South

Project: The project includes construction of additional lanes and a roundabout at the intersection of CR 137 and FM 1660.

Update: A change order was approved for $26,768 in additional funds to add a school walkway in August.
