Pflugerville officials solidify safety protocol for Deutschen Pfest 2021

Though safety protocols will be ramped up this year for the 45th Annual Deutschen Pfest in Pflugerville, the event is still taking place.

Deutschen Pfest is arguably the city's largest annual event, and officials have for several weeks been weighing the logistics of proceeding with a slimmed down version this October.

During City Council's Aug. 24 meeting, CIty Council landed on monitoring progression of the COVID-19 pandemic and receiving weekly updates leading up to certain aspects of the annual event as well as canceling the festival's parade, kids' sections and kids' 5K event.

At a Sept. 28 council meeting, officials discussed the possibility of reinstating the kid's' 5K fun run at the next meeting.Staff also presented officials with a list of safety precautions planned for the 2021 event. Those include:

-All attendees over age 2 are encouraged to wear a mask unless eating or drinking.

-Disposable masks will be provided for all staff, volunteers and attendees who need them.

-Social distancing of at least six feet is strongly encouraged except among groups of 10 or fewer.

-All tables will remain six feet apart.

-Paperless and contactless transactions will be facilitated as much as possible in the vendor sections.

-Sanitizer stations will be dispersed throughout the event.

-Emails will be sent to ticket holders 72 hours in advance to inform them of refund details due to COVID-19 concerns or exposure.
