Pflugerville updates drought contingency plan with year-round restrictions

Pflugerville has a new plan for managing water shortages following Pflugerville City Council's approval of an updated drought contingency plan.

Council voted to adopt the updated plan at a Jan. 24 meeting.

The new plan establishes outdoor water use restrictions that are in effect year round, limiting users to watering two days per week.

The days a given user is allowed to water depend on their address and whether they are residential or commercial. A full list of permitted watering days by user type is available on the city's website.

The new plan also condenses water restriction stages during a drought from four stages to three and ties the water restriction stage to the level of water in Lake Pflugerville.

Utilities Director Brandon Pritchett said the updated plan more closely aligns with other nearby cities and the Lower Colorado River Authority.

“These are normally updated every five years, but we wanted to be more in line with our partners,” Pritchett said.

The new plan, including the updated restrictions, went into effect immediately upon approval Jan. 24.
