Pflugerville to renovate historic Bohls House, convert to parks office

Pflugerville's historic Bohls House will soon act as an office for city parks and recreation staff following a project renovating the house.

According to city materials, the Bohls House was built in the early 1920s and was once the residence of the Bohls family. In 2013, the house was moved to Heritage Park from its original location on SH 130.

At a Dec. 13 meeting, Pflugerville City Council approved a $683,756 construction contract for the renovation project.

The project will bring the two-story, 2,656-square-foot farmhouse into compliance with state accessibility standards and install new air conditioning, plumbing, electrical wiring and light fixtures.

Assistant City Engineer Jeff Dunsworth said the city will preserve the house's original hardwood features wherever possible through the renovation.

Once the project is done, the Bohls House will serve as the main office for Pflugerville's parks and recreation department.

"We have a growing city [and] a growing staff, and it's just remarkable that we've found a method to create eight or nine new offices," Dunsworth said. "It's at a centralized location, ... and it'll provide great access."

Construction on the project is expected to start in January and be complete in August.
