Hutto to consider updates to capital improvement plan

Hutto City Council will discuss the future of its capital improvement plan at its meeting Dec. 5, considering waste water management, parks, trails and utility projects over fiscal years 2025-29.

About the program

The Hutto Capital Improvement Plan considers current and future infrastructure needs for the city across the transportation, water, wastewater, parks and recreation, drainage, and municipal facilities departments.

In the last two years, City Council considered the plan during budget discussions, focusing on the next year’s projects. At its Dec. 5 meeting, city staff will present projects for the next four years in order to “develop a very robust and comprehensive CIP,” according to city documents.

The update

Projects under consideration include various wastewater management improvements, park renovations, off-street trails implementations and utility adjustments.

Council will consider specific items such as:

• South Wastewater Treatment Plant expansion
• Wastewater management for the Hutto Megasite
• Gravity sewer system for the Brushy Creek interceptor
• $2.5 million in park renovations
• $68.9 million in new parks facilities
• Almost 21 miles in new trails

Looking ahead

City staff will request guidance from council no any adjustments to the CIP for the upcoming fiscal years. Many of the projects were considered during this year’s budget planning, but the update will provide additional time to plan for the future CIP.
