Work to expand a campus dedicated to the education of ninth graders in Hutto ISD and convert it into the district's second comprehensive high school is progressing quickly, district officials said in September.
The big picture
As the district's total enrollment is projected to grow by about 5,000 students, crews are working to covert the Hutto Ninth Grade Center to serve students in grades nine through 12.
During a Sept. 25 board meeting, district administrators said work on the project was progressing at a rapid pace. The campus is expected to open in August 2027.
The details
Casey Sledge of Sledge Engineering, the firm managing 2023 bond projects for HISD, said site work and grading continues on the site near Destiny Lane.
The foundations for the fine arts section of the facility competition gym have been poured, he said, and crews are getting to work on steel framing.
What's next?
Administrators said they would bring an item related to naming the new campus to the board of trustees in October.
How we got here
In May 2023, voters approved the use of $522 million to expand and improve district facilities as HISD is growing.
The bond included three propositions.
