1. Hutto ISD sets sights on expanding virtual enrollment
Hutto ISD is working to once again expand its virtual academy, starting with the hiring of a new principal.
District administrators asked the board of trustees Feb. 16 to consolidate two unfilled positions into one new administrative role to oversee the next iteration of the district's online school, which the board approved. HISD Chief of Schools C.J. Lowery said the district will hire for this position quickly, and the person selected for the job will help shape the next iteration of the district's virtual academy, which he called "Hutto virtual enhanced."

2. Hutto ISD officials elect not to hire firm for health and medical services billing
Hutto ISD will not seek reimbursement for health and medical services provided to students through a federal program, as the district looks for new ways to reduce expenditures in its budget.
The move comes as Chief Financial Officer Caleb Steed highlights how little the district receives in return on the investment of hiring a firm to bill the state for providing services through the School Health and Related Services program.

3. Hutto ISD votes 'no' on dedicated time for prayer in school day
Hutto ISD will not create a period of prayer in the school day, following a legislatively required vote on the matter taken in February.
Trustees voted not to create a daily period of prayer in its schools, at the recommendation of staff, at a Feb. 26 board meeting.
The vote is required by statute in Senate Bill 11, passed in the 89th Texas Legislature, with a deadline of March 1.
