Amazon fulfillment center in Pflugerville officially operational, will continue hiring blitz

The AUS2 Amazon Fulfillment Center in Pflugerville is now officially operational, and a company representative said the facility will continue taking on new employees into next year.

A July news release from the Pflugerville Community Development Corp. stated Amazon intends to hire 1,000 full-time employees.

The AUS2 facility began operations Oct. 17, and Daniel Martin, Amazon regional public relations manager, said there are 600 employees working at the center.

"A lot of times we do kind of a phased approach to our launches, and so we will continue to add new team members basically every week for the next several weeks as we ramp up for the holidays, and then even into next year," Martin said.

An Oct. 18 news release from Amazon stated the company is hiring for 150,000 seasonal jobs nationwide, with facilities in the Austin area accounting for 3,000.

As part of the launch in Pflugerville, Martin said operations include receiving in-bound packages, training new team members and building inventory.

Martin also pointed to the fact that the AUS2 site constitutes the first fulfillment center in the Greater Austin area equipped with a state-of-the-art robotics component, which will help operations heading into the holiday season.
