Jason Miller has kept exotic animals since he was 5 years old, catching lizards on fences in Southern California. Now, he’s brought that lifelong passion to Hutto with a storefront he says offers a different approach to exotic pets.
Miller opened Amazing Animal Adventures in November 2024 with what he describes as an interactive, education-first approach. He welcomes visitors whether they're ready to buy or simply curious, offering hands-on interaction with snakes, lizards, birds and small mammals. The shop also carries supplies and enclosures for exotic pet owners.
“I tried to reinvent the pet store experience,” Miller said.
What they offer
The shop's inventory includes reptiles, mammals, birds and invertebrates, such as:
Ball pythons
Red-tailed boas
King snakes
Leopard and crested geckos
Bearded dragons
Sugar gliders
Arachnids
Miller said he hand-raises many of the animals and sources most from breeders he knows personally.
"I get almost everything in here from people I know,” he added.
Miller highlighted Willie, a Patagonian Cavy that occasionally roams freely around the store, and Optimus, a 13-year-old rhinoceros iguana who shares his habitat with his companion, Cinnamon, as particularly popular animals with visitors.
Beyond animals, the shop carries enclosures, lighting, bedding, feeding supplies and decor for reptiles, amphibians, birds and exotic mammals.
"We have full-blown kits where you could just take that and go with your animal, or we can build something more custom to it ... Miller said his goal is to move away from the industrial feel of traditional pet stores and create a more interactive, welcoming space. He describes the approach as low-pressure and education-first.
“I want them to be greeted, and I want it to be a different experience than they’ve ever had,” Miller said. “Zero trying to sell them anything—just let them choose, answer all the questions, and make sure they’re leaving confident and set up for success.”
Miller shared his motivations for creating a welcoming environment for all.

The response from the community has exceeded expectations, Miller said, adding that customers travel from across the region, including Round Rock, Georgetown and Austin.
"I see them every week or every couple of days," Miller said.
One memorable moment came when a young visitor said goodbye to a bird in the shop.
"That little boy said, 'I love you, Sunny,'" Miller said. "That's special."
As the shop grows, he plans to expand interactive offerings while staying focused on educating people about exotic animals.
