The Texas Department of Transportation held a public meeting regarding the Mykawa Road improvement project April 23 at the Virgil Gant Support Center in Pearland. This project is necessary in a growing city like Pearland, TxDOT Public Information Officer Danny Perez said. “Having a suitable north and south corridor is imperative,” Perez said. The project will convert the two-lane road to a four-lane road, create a 10-foot wide shared-use path on the west side of Mykawa and a 6-foot wide path on the east side as well as improve drainage with storm sewer and detention ponds. The changes will stretch from just north of Beltway 8 to Broadway Street, which TxDOT plans to widen. The next step is to have a public hearing, which will occur this year, although a formal date has not been set. The project is slated to start construction in 2021 and wrap up in 2023. The project will cost approximately $40 million and will likely be funded by federal and local dollars.
