This May election cycle has been very contentious, so contentious in fact, that Pearland residents will have yet another chance to vote on two seats.
Incumbent and longtime Pearland Mayor Tom Reid ran a neck-and-neck campaign against contestant Quentin Wiltz, a third-time candidate for City Council. While the polls closed on May 6, both Wiltz and Reid will face off for a second time in what is called a runoff election June 10.
A runoff only occurs in a race with at least three candidates if none receive more than 50 percent of the vote.
For those who paid attention to the May 6 results, neither Reid nor Wiltz earned more than 50 percent of the vote. A third candidate for mayor, Jimi Amos, snatched away 5 percent, and both Reid and Wiltz were near evenly matched, which caused a runoff election.
