Friendswood ISD to form Citizens Advisory Committee for facility needs

Friendswood ISD’s board of trustees approved at its Sept. 9 meeting the creation of a Citizens Advisory Committee, or CAC, to evaluate facility needs.

The overview

The last comprehensive FISD facilities plan was completed in 2020, which resulted in the recommendation of a $128 million construction bond that eventually passed in November of that year, according to district documents.

The 2020 bond included building a new elementary school to replace Cline Elementary, renovations at Friendswood High School with a new gym and auditorium, and additions to Windsong Elementary and Bales Intermediate to meet enrollment projections. Safety and maintenance items were also funded through the bond, according to district documents.

Five years after this facilities plan was reviewed, district administration recommended the formation of a facilities advisory committee, which will be made up of various representatives, to review the current plan and potentially recommend future facility and maintenance upgrades, district documents show.

What’s next

The CAC will be made up of members recommended by the board of trustees, district teachers and administrators, students, and randomly selected community members, according to district documents.

Currently, there is not a timeline set on gathering members for the committee, FISD Executive Director of Communication Kelsey Golz said in a Sept. 12 email.
