Friendswood ISD putting together committee tasked with recommending future projects

Friendswood ISD is looking for community members interested in serving on a Citizens’ Advisory Committee, which will bring recommendations to the board centered around future facility and maintenance needs.

The committee would be made up of community members such as parents, including those from other district committees, according to a Nov. 18 news release from the district. In addition, there will be members representing the district administration, students from Friendswood Junior High and Friendswood High School, teachers, campus principals and the special education department.

There will tentatively be eight meetings between December and March planned, according to the news release. However, officials said it's possible there will be more than eight meetings depending on the committee’s progress.

Each meeting will take place in the early evening and go for about two hours, according to the release.

How we got here

The FISD board of trustees approved creating the committee in September, Community Impact previously reported.

Prior to that, a similar committee was formed in 2019 and brought recommendations for a bond to the district’s board, according to the release.

That bond, which was worth $120 million and passed by voters in 2020, is nearly complete, Community Impact has previously reported.

Those interested in being on the committee must complete a form through the district by Dec. 3, according to the release. The form can be found here.

Once the deadline passes, names will be randomly selected to serve on the committee, according to the release.
