San Jacinto College extended its partnership with the National Institute for Bioprocessing Research and Training, or NIBRT, to continue serving as the exclusive provider for NIBRT-licensed training in the southern United States, according to a Sept. 17 release from the college.
The NIBRT global program supports international training and education organizations to help address the shortage of a skilled biopharma workforce, the release states.

The college’s Center for Biotechnology, located at McCord Development's Generation Park, opened in September 2025 and focuses on emerging programs including cell and gene therapy, biologics and small molecules. The center offers workforce training and credentials for post-graduates, as well as courses that satisfy an associate of applied science degree, the release states.
The college’s biotechnology program also offers courses on its south campus including biomanufacturing, specialized instrumentation and equipment training.
Some context
According to the release, Generation Park received a $6.5 billion pharmaceutical manufacturing investment from pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly and Company, which is expected to create over 600 jobs.
Pharmaceutical company Bristol Myers Squibb also announced plans for a $2.3 billion manufacturing campus that is expected to bring around 500 permanent jobs and 2,000 construction and indirect jobs, the release states.
The launch of San Jacinto’s Center for Biotechnology is driven by McCord's efforts to brand Generation Park as a premier life sciences hub in Houston, as previously reported by Community Impact.
