TxDOT working on improvements to MoPac exit near The Domain

A project funded by the Texas Department of Transportation and Endeavor Real Estate is trying to make the merge from northbound MoPac to Domain Boulevard less sudden.

The construction, overseen by TxDOT, will move the Duval Road exit from northbound MoPac farther south. The new design will allow drivers more time to turn onto Domain Boulevard, TxDOT Public Information Officer Brad Wheelis said.

In its current design, drivers exiting northbound MoPac need to quickly cross three lanes to turn right onto Domain Boulevard.

The project stemmed from a traffic study conducted by Endeavor Real Estate, which owns developments in the Domain and Domain Northside, to improve road safety.

Part of the project also involves TxDOT “restriping the auxiliary ramp lane and right-turn deceleration lanes to a configuration that allows safer weaving movements for the number of cars exiting and entering the MoPac ramp as projected by the traffic study,” Wheelis said.

TxDOT will also add additional illumination along the northbound frontage road.

Timeline: Aug. 9-October
