The city of Austin will begin construction on several safety and mobility improvements on Rundberg Lane in North Austin by mid- to late July.
According to a July 19 newsletter from the Austin Transportation Department, work is expected to begin at the intersections of Rundberg at I-35 and Rundberg at Middle Fiskville Road sometime in the next seven days.
The improvements are part of the 2016 mobility bond, and construction at both intersections will include pedestrian safety projects. The city will build new Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant ramps along with high-visibility crosswalks and reflective pavement markings at the intersections.
According to the newsletter, city crews will also build improved medians and a new pedestrian crossing island at the intersection at Rundberg and I-35. Pedestrian crossing islands provide protected pathways for pedestrians and cyclists looking to cross the road. Planning documents for this project show the median reconstruction will close the existing median gap on Rundberg west of the I-35 frontage road.
