Drainage, bridge work and more beginning on 183 North Mobility Project

The 183 North Mobility Project—a $612 million transportation project aimed to alleviate congestion and improve emergency response times—remains on track for a 2026 completion date.

Over the next several weeks through the summer, crews will focus on earthwork, storm sewer drainage, bridge work, retaining wall work, paving, electrical and franchise utility adjustments, and pavement grinding, said Sylvia Shelton, the Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority's public involvement lead for the project.

The yearslong project, which officially broke ground in January 2022, will add two tolled lanes and a fourth nontolled lane in each direction between MoPac and SH 45 N, as previously reported by Community Impact.

Additionally, the project will implement pedestrian- and cyclist-friendly facilities as well as bring aesthetic enhancements to the corridor as outlined in plans by the Mobility Authority, which is overseeing the project.

Shelton said standard lane closures will occur during this work but that most closures that impact the main lanes will occur at night and during off-peak hours. Updated lane closure information for both the northbound and southbound lanes can be found at www.183north.com/construction/travel-alerts.
