New vote totals from the Texas Secretary of State show Pete Sessions extending his lead in the U.S. House District 17 Republican primary race. Sessions now leads with more than 30% of the vote. Renée Swann continues to stand second in total votes in the contest, tallying a total 22.17% of the votes so far.
If results stand in this race, Sessions and Swann will face each other in a May 26 runoff election.

Unofficial vote returns from the Texas Secretary of State show Pete Sessions leading the pack of Republican candidates for the U.S. House District 17 primary contest.
Sessions has received 3,725 votes for 27.72% of the vote, state records show. Renée Swann trails Sessions with 20.57% of the vote. George Hindman owns 19.59%, while Elianor Vessali with 10.88% of the vote total is the only other candidate polling with more than 10% of the vote.

The first return of early voting totals from Travis County shows George Hindman has taken the lead for the Republican U.S. House District 17 primary contest.
Hindman leads the pack of GOP candidates with a 33.27% share of all early votes. The closest trailing candidates are Pete Sessions with 28.88% and Renée Swann with 12.49%.
This primary cycle, a dozen Republican candidates filed for the seat left vacant by outgoing Rep. Bill Flores, R-Bryan. Flores was first elected to the U.S. Congress in November 2010.
Should no candidate in the March 3 election gain 50% or more of the total vote, a runoff election will take place May 26.
Totals from ballots cast on March 3 have yet to be released. Polls closed at 7 p.m., though voters who were in line at 7 p.m. were still able to cast ballots. Community Impact Newspaper will update this article as more Primary Election Day vote totals come in.
