Early election day returns show Charles Allan Meyer maintaining lead for District 49 Republican primary

Meyer leads the ballot tally after early voting returns, with a 72% share of the vote.

Challenger Jenai Aragona-Hales earned 450 early votes, or 28% of the vote.

Early voting in Travis County this year outpaced early voting totals from both the 2012 and 2016 primary elections, with more than 131,000 residents casting ballots.

Totals from ballots cast on March 3 have yet to be released. Polls closed at 7 p.m., though voters who were in line at 7 p.m. were still able to cast ballots. Community Impact Newspaper will update this article as more Primary Election Day vote totals come in.

Travis County Clerk Dana DeBeauvoir said early on March 3 that her office expected approximately 150,000 voters to go to the polls throughout the day.

Some polling locations experienced delays in opening and tallying votes as multiple election judges and poll workers failed to show up to their posts, DeBeauvoir said March 3.

“Super Tuesday got off to a rocky start due to multiple no-shows of many election judges and poll workers. To the extent that the Elections Office was given a reason, it seems people were fearful of the Coronavirus,” the clerk’s office said in a written statement.

Incumbent Gino Hinojosa, D-Austin, ran unopposed in the Democratic primary for Texas House District 49.

All vote counts are unofficial until canvassed.
