While student enrollment continues to climb in Round Rock and Pflugerville ISDs, Austin ISD has experienced a student population decline over the past five years. From the 2015-16 school year to the 2019-20 school year, AISD enrollment dropped by 3.27%—a loss of nearly 3,000 total students.
The charts below include information on student enrollment, demographics, teacher salaries and more.
AISD’s enrollment has dropped by more than 6,000 students in the last six years, according to state data. Last year, AISD trustees voted to close and consolidate four elementary schools—three in East Austin and one downtown campus—for the 2020-21 school year.
After two delayed decisions on the subject, RRISD trustees in May voted to raise teacher salaries by 2% across the board. The salary increases amount to more than $8 million in the district’s budget.
