Pins & Wheels at Playland brings generations together through skating and more

“My dad would say it was a diamond that just needed to be polished,” Moxley said. “My parents have always been entrepreneurs and just had a business mindset.”

Moxley said the upgrades have shaped the space into a one-stop entertainment shop better serving the local community.

“It never gets old watching a customer walk in and their expression on their face of ‘wow, this looks completely different,’” Moxley said. “But once you hit the skate floor, it's still the same Playland it's always been.”

Attendees can take part in skating, axe throwing, bowling, karaoke and arcade games.

Along with the updates to games, individuals can partake in the enhanced dining options including a variety of burger options, appetizers, salads, sandwiches and flatbreads.

Customers can also enjoy specialty cocktails, pitchers, beer and wine as well as nonalcoholic refreshers and nonalcoholic beer.

The impact

As a locally owned and operated business for over 50 years, Moxley said the center has served as a place families can share generation to generation.

“The heart of Playland is our roller skating and the memories that we've created for families,” Moxley said. “The amount of times people have said that they skated here when they were a kid and now they're bringing their grandchildren in here. The generations that have come through here, the generations that I've seen, that's the heart of it.”

The center hosts frequent events including adult skate nights, trivia and themed skate nights with themes such as Taylor Swift, '90s and Texas music.

In addition to themed events, community members can attend skating classes which take place on Sunday mornings. Class curriculum ranges from beginner to intermediate and advanced with skills such as skating backwards, spins and transitions.
