Veronica Solomon, owner of Casa Vilora Interiors, works to improve her clients’ lives by making their homes beautiful and more livable, she said. Solomon started the studio in Montrose in 2012 but relocated the business to Katy in 2013. “I moved here because I wanted a more open space to showcase the samplings that I have,” Solomon said. “I wanted a comfortable, inviting space that showcases my work.” Solomon celebrated a year in her current location Dec. 8 at the Tiger Square Shopping Center. The store was previously located on Franz Road in Katy. The new location allows her to offer a small amount of retail items to help customers decorate their homes. Retail is a small portion of Solomon’s work. The business’s primary focus is a full interior-decorating service that ranges from redecorating waiting rooms for small businesses to full remodeling and redecorating services for homeowners, she said. She even offers workshops and consultations for those who would like to do the work themselves to save money. “I like bringing interior design to the masses,” Solomon said. “I’ll take their budget and use it as best as possible.” When Solomon moved to the U.S. from Jamaica in 1996, she watched TV shows about interior design and fell in love with the industry. She was fascinated by how interior design could improve lives, she said. She took design classes and opened Casa Vilora. Solomon does the design work herself and relies on contractors she has developed positive relationships with to get the heavy labor done, such as remodeling or laying carpet, she said. Relationship building is as important with contractors as it is with clients, she said. Solomon works to ensure contractors have what they need to complete the work for her clients efficiently and without delays, asking that they prioritize her jobs to satisfy clients. “I think people should be more aware that interior design is a necessity,” Solomon said. “It’s often perceived as an expensive thing or meant for the rich, [but it] really helps you to live your best life.”
