The Mamie George Community Center, a Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston program, will provide relief to families and individuals affected by Hurricane Harvey and the Brazos River flooding Saturday at 10 a.m., according to a press release.
Those in need can receive supplies that include groceries, clothes, information and lunch.
“Our values are faith, integrity and collaboration, and this event is designed to bring hope and help to our community and to let them know we’re here for them,” Beth Zarate, Fort Bend director for Catholic Charities, said in a press release.
Catholic Charities will work with other organizations to set up the event including the Fort Bend County Office of Emergency Management, United Way, and other local community organizations.
"Damages are being assessed, and preparations for the recovery phase of the disaster have begun," the release stated.
“Our teams work all year to prepare for situations like this, and we are ready to respond across the entire region,” Cynthia N. Colbert, Catholic Charities president and CEO said in the release. “We know from past experience that people are grateful for whatever assistance is available. The greatness of a community is measured by the compassionate acts of its members, and we are people helping people. “
