Blackfinn Ameripub, a new concept on American dining, is scheduled to open Feb. 21 in the former Joe DiMaggio's space at The Domain.

General Manager Brandon Sarkis, who grew up in Austin, said the restaurant will feature food that most people love, such as flatbreads, salads and burgers.

"We coined a phrase to describe what we do: it's a modern American interpretation of what a pub is," he said.

The 8,000-square-foot restaurant can seat about 330 people, including seating for about 70 on the covered patio. Sarkis said Blackfinn gutted the former restaurant and installed new flooring and a square bar with about 35–40 seats around it. The interior walls retract to allow for a more open dining room and bar area.

Blackfinn will have about 100 beers available, including options from (512), Live Oak and Independence breweries as well as specialty cocktails. Sarkis said the restaurant just hired Wade McNabb from the recently shuttered Weirdos to serve as bar manager.

"He's been a late-night North Austin staple for 10 years. A lot of people will know him," he said.

The Ameripub concept came up about a year ago when the restaurant's partners were brainstorming how to keep up the energy in the restaurant without breaking up the space too much. Sarkis said that is when the open dining concept came up and the term Ameripub was coined.

The menu includes items such blackened brie with sliced apples, ciabatta toast and apple cranberry chutney; a blackened Bourbon Street burger with garlic-herb cream cheese, peppercorn sauce and caramelized onions; ginger ahi tuna with stir-fry vegetables; bacon-wrapped meatloaf; and a hot chocolate dessert with a chocolate and peanut butter souffle served with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream and caramel drizzle.

Sarkis said the menu will also indicate which items can be made vegetarian or gluten-free, with plenty of options for both.

"We're cognizant of the fact there is a movement toward gluten-free and vegetarian," he said.

Blackfinn will also serve brunch on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m.–3 p.m. featuring items such as crabcake Benedict and a bacon, egg and cheese quesadilla. Happy hour will be Mon.–Fri. 4–7 p.m., and a reverse happy hour is Sun.–Fri. 10 p.m.–2 p.m.
