A $7.25 million construction project focused on widening part of Old Houston Road from two to four lanes is scheduled to begin Aug. 31, according to Precinct 4 Commissioner Matt Gray’s Office.
What residents should know
Work to expand the roadway will take place over the next year, starting where Old Houston Road intersects with Hwy. 242 in New Caney and ending 0.8 miles south of the intersection, said Kennedy Williams, a community outreach staffer with Gray’s Office, via email Aug. 26.
Other work that will be completed under the project includes the addition of:
- A continuous turn lane
- A new bridge over Dry Creek
- Roadside ditches
Some context
The project is just the first segment of a three-phase project that will widen Old Houston Road from two to four lanes between Hwy. 242 and FM 1314. Williams previously said field work for Segments 2 and 3 is underway.
Funding the project
The Old Houston Road widening project will be funded under Montgomery County's $480 million road bond, Williams said. The road bond was approved by voters in May 2025 to fund 76 transportation projects across all four county precincts, as previously reported by Community Impact. Cost estimates for the other two project segments have not been determined as of press time.
