The Lone Star College Foundation marked 35 years since its founding at an annual fundraiser where more than $524,500 was raised to help students in need, according to a May 13 Lone Star College System news release.

The LSCF was created in 1991 and has since helped 27,000 students, according to the release. Designed to help students attend Lone Star College campuses despite financial obstacles, the foundation offers scholarships, money for textbooks and emergency aid.
According to the release, since its founding, the LSCF has raised:
- $30 million in scholarships
- $14.7 million in emergency aid
Put in perspective“After facing uncertainty and setbacks, pursuing higher education at LSCS became a turning point in my life,” said Alma May, a LSCF scholarship recipient and graduating student at LSC-Montgomery, via the release. “Support from the college and foundation is creating a ripple effect far beyond the classroom.”
The celebration
On May 2, the foundation’s annual StarGala fundraiser, which garnered about 450 guests, was held in honor of the 35th anniversary, per the release. The event was hosted at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott Hotel and Convention Center.
“For many students, the greatest barrier to success is financial, and removing that barrier is at the heart of our work,” said Miranda Hadamik, LSCF board chair and executive vice president of investment at Caldwell Companies, via the release.
