With one of New Caney ISD’s trustees opting not to run for reelection in November, four candidates have filed to run for the seat, documents posted on the district’s website show.
Meet the candidates
Trustee Creg Mixon, who holds Position 2, has not filed for reelection in the Nov. 3 election, according to NCISD’s website. The four candidates that will vie for Mixon’s spot are:
- Chad Turner
- Kevin Jensen
- Kristina Haggard
- Ryan Schurdell
Meanwhile, board President Elizabeth Harrell did file for reelection according to NCISD’s website. No one filed to oppose her in the election, and the filing deadline for candidate applications closed at 5 p.m. Aug. 17.
The filing period for November’s general election opened July 18, according to NCISD’s website.

Each member of the board of trustees is elected to an at-large position for three years in a nonpartisan election, according to the NCISD website.

Harrell has served as NCISD’s board president since Nov. 17, when a new trustee joined the board prompting a leadership shuffle, as previously reported by Community Impact. Mixon served as board president prior to Harrell.
Harrell was first elected to NCISD’s board in May 2010 before leaving in 2016, as previously reported. She was reelected to the board in 2017.
