After almost three years of construction, the city of New Braunfels is nearing completion on its Morningside Drive reconstruction project.
The Morningside Drive section of the project extends from Solms Road to the I-35 frontage road. Once completed, the road that was previously a two-lane roadway will have two traffic lanes. It will also have a continuous left-hand turn lane and bike lanes.
The project was slightly delayed from the initial anticipated completion in September, resulting from a significant number of rainy days, according to David Ferguson, city of New Braunfels media and communications coordinator. It is now on track to officially be complete in December and have roads reopened in late October.
“The contractor anticipates reopening the roadway to two-way traffic [the week of Oct. 18]. The city does not have any future planned closures. However, as work on the project continues, an isolated need for closure could occur,” Ferguson said in an email.
