Comal County Extension Office promoting wellness among residents

Comal County residents have a new opportunity to lessen the impact of chronic health conditions.

The Comal County Extension Office will start a Master Wellness program that will train residents on health, nutrition and food safety, according to a county news release on Dec. 2.

“Anyone interested in health and wellness is welcome to sign up,” said Jymann Davis, agent for family and community health with the Comal County office of the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service. “You don’t have to be a health professional; you just have to be interested in learning how to promote healthy living in your community.”

The extension office is also seeking volunteers for the Master Wellness program who will give presentations to community groups, assist in healthy cooking demonstrations, participate in health fairs and more.

Volunteers will work with extension agents to identify topics, audiences and resources in Comal County in order to make a difference, the release said. Volunteers will undergo 40 hours of training, including three training sessions at the Comal County Extension Office, 325 Resource Drive, New Braunfels.

Upon completion of the training, volunteers will begin a 40-hour internship planning and implementing health and nutrition programs, the release said. Training sessions will be held Jan. 21, Feb. 11 and March 3. Deadline to register is Jan. 14.
