New Braunfels IDEA Forum to hold pledge party Sept. 7

The New Braunfels Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Awareness Forum will host a pledge party Sept. 7 at the McKenna Events Center, 801 W. San Antonio St., New Braunfels, from 10-11:30 a.m.

Those wishing to participate can drop in during that time and sign pledge cards that state “you and your organization are invited to publicly commit to a mindset and practices that exemplify acceptance, compassion and dignity for all,” according to a press release.

New Braunfels Mayor Rusty Brockman will give a speech at 10:30 a.m. In addition to the pledge cards, door prizes, refreshments and photo opportunities will be available.

“New Braunfels is a community that cares. We value each other and our diversity and recognize that we all have a role to play in each other’s success. The IDEA Forum was created through a belief system that we can achieve more together through shared understanding of different perspectives,” Brockman said in the release.

Created in 2020, the IDEA Forum has made inroads creating deeper communication channels with the New Braunfels Police Department, the New Braunfels MLK Association and the local Chapter of the League of United Latin American Citizens as well as several local religious organizations, according to the release. The McKenna Foundation administers the effort initially created by the city of New Braunfels.

McKenna has embodied these practices for decades and enthusiastically supports members of the IDEA Forum to ensure this positive narrative prevails,” said Alice Jewell, CEO of the McKenna Foundation.
