A new single-family, multi-family and retail development being constructed in the Hoffman Lane Elementary School attendance zone may be moved to the Oak Creek Elementary school attendance zone in June.
Bellaire Homes and Gehan Homes are involved in the Gruenefield development which is located on the northwest corner of HWY 306 and FM 1102.
According to the school board, the Gruenefield subdivision includes 221 lots, 111 of which are vacant and developed and three with active construction.
The neighborhood is anticipated to add approximately 81 elementary students over the next five years and between 60-100 when it is completed.
Oak Creek Elementary School will be able to handle a greater influx of students than Hoffman Lane Elementary School, said Executive Director of Communications for Comal ISD Steve Stanford.
“Right now, Oak Creek is the [school] with a greater capacity,” said Stanford.
The board of trustees will vote on the zone change at their next meeting on June 25.
