Carl Schurz Elementary School celebrates 100 years in New Braunfels

Carl Schurz Elementary School celebrated its 100th anniversary March 26 with a community-wide event honoring a century of education in New Braunfels.

The centennial celebration highlighted the school's and the New Braunfels ISD's long-standing role in the New Braunfels community while showcasing the student leadership shaping its future.

What happened

The centennial event featured student performances, guided campus tours led by student leadership and family-friendly activities honoring the school's history. Community members, alumni, families and local partners also attended the historic evening, enjoying live music, centennial custom-made ice cream, commemorative 100th-anniversary cookies, and balloon art and face painting for students and families, according to a news release.

Carl Schurz Elementary Principal Omar Diaz said the school's impact to the community was part of the city's story.

"For a century, our school has been a place to grow, learn and create lasting memories," Diaz said during the event.

Carl Schurz Elementary School opened its doors in 1925 and has served generations of New Braunfels families, according to the release.
