In collaboration with community partners, the city of New Braunfels has canceled the annual Wein and Saengerfest festival scheduled for May 2.
The cancellation comes as other annual events such as Thru the Chute Cardboard Boat Race and the Family Promise Bed Race are canceled or postponed due to coronavirus concerns and social distancing efforts.
“Downtown New Braunfels is a unique cultural and community asset, and the annual Wein and Saengerfest festival was created to celebrate those qualities,” Downtown Development Coordinator Amy McWhorter said in a press release. “We are exploring options to celebrate our downtown in other unique ways at some time in the future.”
According to the press release, Wein and Saengerfest draws approximately 10,000 visitors each year and benefits the city, nonprofit organizations and other retailers.
