Due to a recent rise in temperatures and lack of significant rainfall, officials from New Braunfels Utilities are expecting a shift from stage 1 to stage 2 drought restrictions by the end of April.
A news release from NBU states the 10-day average of the J-17 well within the Edwards Aquifer is 655.2-feet, which is only about five feet above the trigger for Stage 2 drought restrictions. New Braunfles has been in stage 1 restrictions since October 2020.
"As temperatures continue to rise, and if we do not receive significant rainfall, we anticipate Stage 2 drought restrictions could go into effect within the next few weeks," the release states.“New Braunfels Utilities encourages customers to conserve water year-round, especially lawn irrigation."
