The city of New Braunfels will now accept competitive sealed proposals for the construction of a fiber-optic cable following City Council approval during the Feb. 14 regular meeting.
According to city documents, the request is to build a 5-mile fiber segment on Loop 337 to complete a fiber ring between City Hall and the New Braunfels Public Library.
Once complete, the connection would provide increased speeds for Fire Stations Nos. 1, 2, 3, 5 and 6; Fischer Park; the public library; New Braunfels Regional Airport; and the New Braunfels Civic and Convention Center.
The request also includes the construction of city-owned fiber-optic infrastructure connecting an existing connection at Hwy. 46 and Loop 337 to Fire Station No. 4. The connection would replace a limited fiber that is owned by New Braunfels Utilities and is loaned to the city to provide network connectivity for the fire station.
