A local live music venue is getting ready to celebrate a big milestone in New Braunfels this summer.
Watering Hole Saloon & Dancehall is celebrating its 40th anniversary with a weekend celebration from June 18-21. Owner Holly Allen said the event will include a variety of festivities, from live music to giveaways.
The history
Allen said her parents—Bob and Shirley Saulle—opened the venue in 1986, which, at the time, was only a 900 square-foot icehouse.
“That’s how it started,” Allen said. “My parents added the big dancehall in 1991.”
Live music was performed in the dancehall until the mid-1990s until it was replaced by live DJ sets. However, live music returned to the saloon in 2014, Allen said.
“We wanted to get a bunch of new people in here,” she said. “This place was built for live music.”
What they offer
Watering Hole Saloon & Dancehall has live music every week, showcasing country, rock, pop and folk music. Allen said her venue sticks out compared to others in town because of the large dancehall area.
“We’ve got such a nice size dance floor,” Allen said.
