A locally-owned hardware store and lumber yard is planning to close its doors after seven decades of serving the New Braunfels area.
What’s happening
Eberhard Lumber—owned by husband and wife duo Diana and Dennis Eberhard—announced on Facebook that they were planning to close for retirement by the end of the year.
“It’s just time to retire,” Diana Eberhard told Community Impact. “We’ve made so many friends and seen so much change here.”
The history
Eberhard said the hardware store first opened in 1953 and still sits at its original location at 1445 McQueeney Road in New Braunfels. Originally run by her husband’s parents, Eberhard said it was handed off to them 1993.

Eberhard Lumber served as a locally-sourced lumber yard and sold doors, frames, hardware products and foundation materials. The store also offered key duplication, special orders, tool sharpening and more.
