Upcoming New Braunfels transportation projects to update infrastructure throughout the city
Road and infrastructure projects are currently in progress or are anticipated to begin soon throughout the New Braunfels area.

Simon Street Water and Wastewater Improvements
Project details: The project will replace aging infrastructure in the area surrounding Ashmore Avenue, Simon Avenue and Hampe Street ahead of the CoNB roadway work along Simon Avenue, including replacing over 1,300 feet of old 6-inch wastewater pipes with larger, more efficient 8-inch mains along Hampe Street, Simon Avenue and nearby easements. This upgrade will improve flow and helps prevent backups in the system. New Braunfels Utilities crews will also replace 1,070 feet of outdated 6-inch water lines with new 8-inch pipes in the same area.
Update: Construction is anticipated to begin in late May
The New Braunfels Utilities, or NBU, board of trustees approved a proposed increase to electric, water, and wastewater utility rates on May 29, according to a news release.
This is the first of three required approvals needed for the rates to increase. Final passage is contingent upon two approvals by the New Braunfels City Council. If approved, the new rates will take effect on August 1, the release states.
The proposed rate increases will go before the New Braunfels City Council on June 16 and again on June 23 for final consideration.
Universal City purchases property for Aviation District revitalization
Universal City Council unanimously approved the purchase of 116 E. Lindbergh Blvd. on second and final reading May 20.
The purchase is part of the city’s Aviation District Masterplan–a 10-15 year plan focused on redeveloping the East Aviation District–which serves as a commercial thoroughfare that is South of Pat Booker Road and a gateway into Randolph Air Force Base. The goal of the plan is to provide a vibrant public realm anchored with a well-defined town center and open spaces according to previous reporting by Community Impact.
The city will conduct a boundary survey and get an environmental assessment of the property, Turner said in the email.
“We will get a title commitment to ensure there are no liens against the property or any unknown easements or conditions on the property that would prevent us from developing it in the future,” she added.

Located in the Live Oak Shopping Center off North Main Street, Dollar Tree returns to Boerne after closing a store in 2024.
Dollar Tree is an international discount chain that offers products at a price point of $1.25, with some stores featuring special sections with price points of $3 and $5, according to the business website. Since its founding 70 years ago, the store has expanded to more than 9,000 locations nationwide.
