McKinney announces closures, delays due to weather conditions

Updated 4:30 p.m. Feb. 16 with additional information:

Trash and recycling collections will be delayed beginning Feb. 15 due to forecast inclement weather, the city of McKinney announced. It is likely services will be delayed until next week.

In a news release, the city announced that staff is monitoring the weather and that updated information will be posted on the city website at www.mckinneytexas.org.

The city has also closed several of its facilities, which are listed on its website, and is offering warming stations. These include McKinney Boyd High School at 600 Lake Forest Drive, open 24 hours, and The Roy and Helen Hall Library at 101 E. Hunt St., open from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Mayor George Fuller said in a Facebook video that First United Methodist Church at Church and Lamar streets has also opened as a community-sponsored warming station on the east side of the city. In a news release, the city stated the McKinney Fire Department is working with local senior living communities to set up accommodations for those without food and water.

Additionally, the City Council meeting and work session scheduled for Feb. 16 have been canceled. The meeting and the work session will be rescheduled for a later date. Updated meeting schedules can be found https://mckinney.legistar.com/calendar.aspx.

The city has stated that residents need to preserve energy when possible. Due to the icy conditions and power surges associated with it, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas entered emergency conditions and initiated rotating outages starting at 1:25 a.m. Feb. 15.
