Wilmeth Road to be expanded in McKinney and more transportation updates to know in December

2. White Avenue improvements

Major concrete street reconstruction began in late November along White Avenue between Graves Street and North Tennessee Street. Major construction was able to begin as soon as the city’s contractor had completed the replacement of aging underground water and wastewater mains. The street’s reconstruction is estimated to take about five to six months to complete.

3. Custer Road widening

Work continues to widen FM 2478, also known as Custer Road, from two lanes to a four-lane divided roadway between US 380 and FM 1461. The road is being built with the capacity to eventually expand to six lanes. The contractor has paved two main lanes from the Lowe’s at US 380 to FM 1461. Concrete removal is ongoing at US 380 for a new tie-in to Custer. Crews are also completing the pavements on the Wilson Creek Bridge. Concrete has been poured in this area. The storm drain system is now being installed, after which Phase II work will begin.

4. Wilmeth Road expansion

The city of McKinney has plans to expand Wilmeth Road between Lake Forest Drive and Hardin Boulevard. Construction on this project is expected to begin in early 2022. During the project, crews will build two travel lanes in each direction, including multilane roundabouts at Lake Forest, Hardin and Taylor Burk Drive, McKinney Capital Improvements Manager Nick Ataie said. When construction of the roundabout at Lake Forest and Wilmeth begins, traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction along both streets. This will be one of the first phases of construction. Traffic changes at this intersection are expected to last six months, Ataie said.
