UPDATED: Collin County Courthouse to reopen Oct. 6 following electrical fire

The Collin County Courthouse is scheduled to reopen for regular business hours on Wednesday, Oct. 6.

The courthouse was closed through Oct. 4 and 5 after experiencing an electrical fire.

At about 7 a.m. Oct. 4, an electrical panel at the courthouse, located at 2100 Bloomdale Road in McKinney, overheated and failed, county Public Information Officer Tim Wyatt said in an email. This resulted in an electrical fire in the breaker panel; however, the fire was contained to the panel, Merit Ossian, McKinney Fire Department public information officer, said in an email.

The fire resulted in many parts of the courthouse being shut down, including escalators, elevators, fire pumps and the air conditioning, Ossian said.

“No one was injured,” Ossian said in the email. “The fire did not set off the fire alarm system. A law officer inside the building smelled smoke and followed it to the source.”

The cause for the fire is still unknown, Wyatt said. Repairs, testing and inspection of the building continued through the evening of Oct. 5. Updates will be posted at www.collincountytx.gov with any changes.
