Collin County Judge Keith Self appointed John Thomas as Precinct 3 county commissioner Nov. 2. Former Precinct 3 Commissioner Chris Hill stepped down from his position as commissioner on Oct. 27 to file for candidacy for Collin County Judge. Thomas will serve as Precinct 3 commissioner through November 2018 until an election decides who will finish the remaining two years of Hill's unfinished term. Thomas, 61, a Fairview resident, is a former information technology executive. Thomas also has more than 30 years as a senior executive at Fortune 500 corporations, working in operations, information technology, cyber security, finance and real estate, according to a news release from the county. "John Thomas is well-qualified to serve the wide-ranging policy and responsibilities of a county commissioner," Self said in the release. "I am delighted that he agreed to serve until the commissioners court canvasses the November 2018 election results."
