The McKinney Police Department will buy a command post vehicle after McKinney City Council approved a budget amendment to allow for the purchase at an April 2 meeting.
The details
The roughly $1.3 million purchase will be for a single vehicle that will act as a command post for the department.
The vehicle, a large truck, will be used as a “central operation point” for special events, such as the CJ Cup Byron Nelson golf tournament or various holiday events, Darryl Saffold, public information officer for the McKinney Police Department, said in an email. The vehicle can also be used in the case of an active attack or officer-involved shooting, he said.
