McKinney city officials announced the grand opening of a new fire administration building for the McKinney Fire Department in February.

The 40,000-square-foot building, located at 2100 Taylor Burk Drive, will serve as the operational hub for the McKinney Fire Department, according to a news release. About 40 employees from fire administration, emergency management, training, emergency medical services and the fire marshal’s office will work there.
The building will also serve as the city’s Emergency Operations Center in the event of an emergency, according to the news release. The new building is part of a $53 million project to build a new headquarters campus for the McKinney Fire Department.
Funding for the project comes from a $350 million bond measure approved by McKinney voters in 2019.

In a statement, Fire Chief Paul Dow said the new campus is possible because of the “continued trust and support of the McKinney community.”
“We are deeply grateful to the voters who invested in these facilities, which allow us to support our firefighters and paramedics better and strengthen our emergency response capabilities,” Dow said. “These new buildings ensure we can continue delivering the highest level of fire and EMS services as McKinney grows, today and well into the future.”

McKinney officials broke ground on the new campus in 2023. Construction will also include a new fire logistics building and a new Fire Station No. 2 facility.
The fire logistics building is expected to measure 20,000 square feet and will include offices and a warehouse area to store equipment and medical supplies. The facility will also include space to conduct maintenance and repairs on department equipment.
The new fire station facility will replace the existing Fire Station No. 2 facility at 2001 Community Avenue. The existing fire station has been in service for nearly 30 years and is one of the city’s busiest, according to city officials.

The new campus is being designed and built by McKinney-based Pogue Construction in collaboration with Martinez Architects, Gensler, and 720 Design, according to the city news release.
The McKinney Police Department is expanding operations within the existing McKinney Public Safety Building after fire administration officials move to the new campus.
