McKinney ISD Superintendent Rick McDaniel is retiring at the end of the 2022-23 school year after almost eight years in the position, according to a news release from the district.
The announcement signifies the end of McDaniel’s 35-year career in education. McDaniel said the decision to retire was “one of the most difficult decisions I’ve ever made.”
“Many people ask the question, ‘When will you know that it’s time to retire?’ It’s my belief that there is no magic sign or perfect time. You just know,” McDaniel said in an email to parents.
McDaniel has worked various positions throughout his career in education, including teaching, coaching, serving as principal and superintendent, and more, according to the email. While serving as a principal, he facilitated the opening of McKinney Boyd High School, something he considers one of the “most rewarding and meaningful times of [his] career,” according to the email. During his time as superintendent, he also facilitated the opening of the McKinney High School Performing Arts Center and the new McKinney ISD Stadium and community event center.
