Following the closure of three elementary school campuses in McKinney ISD at the end of the 2025-26 school year, officials have announced plans to repurpose the facilities for other district uses.
McKinney ISD Chief Operations Officer Greg Suttle presented the plan to the district’s board of trustees at a June 29 meeting.
The context
The board of trustees voted unanimously at a Nov. 5 special meeting to approve the closure of three schools with the plan to repurpose the facilities for alternative district uses. The three campuses, which closed at the end of the 2025-26 school year, include:
- C. T. Eddins Elementary, located at 311 Peregrine Drive, McKinney
- Arthur H. McNeil Elementary, located at 3650 S. Hardin Blvd., McKinney
- Earl and Lottie Wolford Elementary, located at 6951 Berkshire Road, McKinney
The closures were preceded by a recommendation from a committee composed of 39 MISD parents that assessed the district’s 13 elementary campuses in the southwest sector for factors such as enrollment trends and financial efficiency as well as building condition, capacity and geographical redundancy.
District officials cited financial strain and changing enrollment trends as the driving force for repurposing the campuses, which saved the district $3 million, primarily through reduced labor costs, said Dennis Womack, assistant superintendent of business operations. Alongside the closures, students at affected schools were reassigned to other campuses following board approval of new attendance zones in December.
The specifics
The affected facilities are expected to be renamed, according to Suttle’s presentation. The new names reflect the school’s namesake but include updated facility usage information.
According to Suttle’s presentation, the repurposing plan for the facilities is as follows:
- C. T. Eddins Elementary is set to become C. T. Eddins Student Support and Professional Learning Center. The facility will house the district’s special populations administration and special populations support programs, the McKinney Education Foundation offices and offer professional development space.
- Arthur H. McNeil Elementary is set to become the Arthur McNeil Learning Academy. Officials plan to relocate the offices of the district’s Safety and Security Department and the Aramark Food Services to the facility, as well as the Harold Murphy Counseling Services. The district’s Alternative Educational Placement program will also be relocated to the McNeil facility.
- Earl and Lottie Wolford Elementary is set to become Earl and Lottie Wolford Student Support and Professional Learning Center. District officials plan to relocate the offices of the Club 360 after school program administration and Aramark Custodial Services to the facility. The facility houses daycare services, and will see another section added as the daycare program at Bennett Elementary relocates to the Wolford facility, Suttle said. The facility will also offer professional development space.
Suttle said district staff may bring further facility use updates to the board at a future meeting following the relocation of various departments and offices to these facilities. However, board President Amy Dankel confirmed that the board is not considering closing any other school campuses at this time.
