Playgrounds across McKinney ISD will begin receiving upgrades this summer.
The district’s maintenance department surveyed playground equipment last fall and noted the 12 schools that do not have shade structures. We Build Fun will construct shade structures for the playgrounds with the goal of having all of them completed by the beginning of next school year after approval from the school board at a Jan. 25 meeting.
The project will cost just over $349,000, according to meeting documents. This will be the first step in $2 million of playground improvements approved by voters in the 2021 bond.
“We talked to some principals and some teachers, and they thought that [shade structures] would be a good place to start,” Chief Operations Officer Greg Suttle said at the meeting, adding playground equipment can get especially hot in the summertime.
