District officials and staff are preparing for the upcoming school year, which begins Aug. 13.
McKinney ISD teachers, administrators and school board members gathered to kick off the 2026-27 school year at MISD's convocation Aug. 7.
The details
The event at the district's stadium included speeches from Superintendent Shawn Pratt, McKinney Mayor Bill Cox and more. Members of all three MISD high schools' marching bands, as well as cheer teams and performing arts groups, performed during the event.
“We’re going to celebrate our own difference makers and our own champions right here in McKinney ISD that make us the best district in the state of Texas,” Pratt said.
MISD Elementary Teacher of the Year Tommy Gillett and MISD Secondary Teacher of the Year Reagan Brannon also spoke about what motivates them as educators.
“These students, they depend on us. They need us. For a lot of them, school is their safe place,” Gillett said.
Quote of note
“Every single day, there is a moment that happens that reminds me why I entered this profession,” Brannon said.
